Employee has reviewed the WCTS chipper SOP

Employee has reviewed the ANSI Z133 Standard's information on brush chippers and chipper operation

Employee has reviewed the applicable Chipper Operator Specialist supplemental manual as well as the operator's manual(s) for the brush chipper(s) he/she will be operating.

Employee has attended a WCTS "Chipper Use and Safety" training or received equivalent on-the-job training, including chipper hook-up, chipper set-up job site set-up, vehicular and pedestrian traffic control, crew communication, and operation of chippers, including the chipper winch if applicable

Chipper, Pre-Operational

Employee can demonstrate compliance with principles of lockout/tagout procedure prior to inspection
Employee can explain verbally the meaning and purpose of the safety decals and statements found on the chipper
Employee can demonstrate a pre- operational check of the chipper's safety devices
Employee can demonstrate a pre- operational check of the 1) components of the tow hitch: 2) lights and brakes (if equipped): 3) pins and fasteners: 4) bolts and welds: 5) hydraulic fluid levels: cylinders and hoses: 6) engine fluid levels, if applicable.
Employee can demonstrate a pre-operational check of the components of the chipper's winch line, if applicable.
Employee demonstrates correct preparation of the chipper for travel: including use of the jack stand, tow hitch, safety chains, light and brake hookups, and proper securing of any cargo on board the chipper.

Vehicle, Driving

Employee follows correct parking and backing procedures

Work Site Setup

Employee demonstrates the ability to examine the worksite for potential hazards
Employee demonstrates active participation in work planning with the crew members

Employee uses correct chipper set-up and positioning procedures.

Chipper Operations

Employee wears head, eye, hearing, when operating a chipper.
Employee avoids struck-by injuries by respecting the traffic control zone and drop zones on the jobsite
Employee uses correct techniques for dragging, stacking and feeding brush into the chipper, feeding brush into the chipper from the side and immediately turning away.
Employee follows lockout/tagout procedures for chipper maintenance and never attempts to open covers or hood when cutting systems or other sources of potentially harmful mechanical energy in motion
